Full-time Employees

Employee expectations are described in detail in OPERATIONAL MEMORANDUM DEA-802 (Professional Development) and OPERATIONAL MEMORANDUM DEA-804 (Core Expectations)

Core Expectations

All full-time employees will complete or attend the following Core Expectations each academic year:

  • FERPA Training XREG-2000-80000 (online class)
  • Sexual Harassment Awareness Training XREG-2000-80001 (online class)
  • Keeping Safe in a Campus Emergency XSAF-1001-80000 (online class)
  • College Convocation (Fall Semester)
  • Richland College Graduation Ceremony (Administrators and Faculty only)
  • Fall and Spring Return Week Meetings and Activities (Instructional Administrators and Faculty only)

Note: Attendance at Convocation, Graduation and Return Week Meetings is no longer documented in the Staff Enrichment Report in eConnect.

Individual Professional Development

In addition to the Core Expectations, all full-time employees will complete at least 12 hours of Individual Professional Development during each academic year with at least one activity in each of the following three learning categories:

Professional Development activities fall into the following three categories:
1. Professional – Essential knowledge, skills, and abilities for all higher education professionals – Includes topics such as institutional mission, vision, and values; institutional governance and organization; institutional policies and processes; program assessment training; conflict resolution; time management; communication skills; job-specific training; etc. The Professional cetegory also includes all group-specific learning objectives for faculty, staff, and administrators.(Section numbers 84xxx)
2. Technological – Topics related to using digital technologies as tools for effective communication and information management – Includes all software training.(Section numbers 85xxx)
3. Intercultural – All Employees – Knowledge, skills, and abilities for working effectively with others in an intercultural environment – Includes topics such as cultural self-awareness, understanding cultural differences, cultural learning styles, managing cultural conflict, etc. (Section numbers 86xxx)

Professional development activities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Artistic/cultural events which include a presentation, workshop, formal discussion, or other related professional development aspect.
  • Assessment training
  • Classes, sessions, and seminars (face-to-face or online)
  • Professional development facilitator
  • Faculty research and/or publishing
  • Formal education leading to a job-related degree or certificate
  • Formal on-the-job training
  • Formal training leading to a job-related skills qualification
  • Panel/group discussions or forums
  • Professional conferences
  • Professional reading
  • Sabbatical
  • Webinars
  • Activities that directly contribute to an employee’s ability to serve Richland College by the enhancement and advancement of his/her professional knowledge, skills, and abilities.

The following activities are not to be considered professional development and will not be documented in an employee’s professional development transcript:

  • Annual assessment requirements
  • Club sponsorship
  • Community service
  • Departmental/office/committee meetings
  • Fitness/wellness activities
  • Social events
  • Activities that do not directly contribute to an employee’s ability to serve Richland College by the enhancement and advancement of his/her professional knowledge, skills, and abilities.
