Guy Simmons comes to Richland College from Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas. He took over a program at FPC that had not had a winning season in several years. Simmons turned the FPC baseball program around. In 2003, the Plainsmen went 31-20, the best record in school history. During his tenure the Plainsmen had two 30 plus win seasons and never less than 22 wins. Coach Simmons had 11 players drafted and more Division I signees than any other conference school. Every one of his players that graduated moved on to play at the next level.
Coach Simmons was a championship-winning Louisiana High School coach before taking over the Plainsmen program.
Coach Simmons earned both a bachelor’s degree and a Master’s in Education at Northwestern State University before launching his coaching career at Forrest Hill Academy. He moved on to Bolton High School before settling in at Westlake High School. In his first year at Westlake, Coach Simmons led his team to a district title, and he would go on to take his team to the playoffs in each season of his 12-year tenure. Westlake compiled a 215-109 record under Simmons, capped by a Louisiana state title in 1996. His overall coaching record is 484-412 and he looks forward to his 500th coaching victory during the 2011 Spring Season.
Coach Simmons is the author of two nationally sold videos by Coaches Choice Videos; Pitching “A Mechanical Approach to Developing Control” and Hitting “The 6 Ball Theory” He is also a highly sought-after clinic speaker.
